WALSH COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO-AM) - Walsh County Sheriff Ron Jurgens says wildfires that spread across Northeastern North Dakota Wednesday afternoon were a "nightmare."
The fires burned along a 60 mile stretch of I-29 from near the Canadian Border to north of Grand Forks. The fires and dense smoke shut down the Interstate for several hours after pile-up's caused when drivers got caught in near zero visibilities.
It's believed the fire was started from a chain or something dragging from a semi.
Dozens of fire departments from Northeast North Dakota, Northwest Minnesota, the Grand Forks Air Force Base, and Manitoba battled the grassfires.
