FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- The two candidates for Fargo mayor say they both support exploring the possibility of body cameras for police officers. Former commissoner Brad Wimmer says public safety would be one of his priorities if elected later this month.
Acting Mayor Tim Mahoney also says body cameras are something he thinks deserve further study.
Wimmer, who lost a run for mayor against the late Dennis Walaker last June, says he doesn't like how the city commission handled the resignation of former police chief Keith Ternes. The attorney general's office found several violations of open meetings laws.
During a debate on KFGO and kfgo.com, Mahoney said a decision on a possible convention center should wait until there's a determination made on what to do with the civic memorial auditorium.
Wimmer says he'd prefer a downtown location for a convention center, if the idea moves forward.
Wimmer and Mahoney discussed a number of other issues during the debate.
