BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota lawmakers have approved Legislation that increases the snowmobile "trail tax" that's used to maintain state trails.

The House approved the Senate measure on Monday that increases the trail tax from $35 to $45. It now goes to Gov. Jack Dalrymple for his signature.

The bill also raises the trail access fee for out-of-state snowmobilers from $15 to $25.

The Legislature estimates the increase will result in an additional $214,000 that will be deposited into the State Snowmobile Fund over the next two years.

The figure is based on 15,500 licensed snowmobiles in the state and 400 non-residents who pay fees.
