Highway Patrol troopers throughout northeastern North Dakota will be focusing on safety around school buses.
"Trooper on a Bus" campaigns are scheduled Wednesday in the Grand Forks, Cavalier, Grafton, New Rockford and Rolla areas.
The patrol has used the program throughout the state in recent years to enhance safety for children as they get on and off buses. Troopers riding on buses observe traffic violations that occur around the buses and radio the information to officers in squad cars who make traffic stops.
Failing to stop for a school bus can result in a $100 fine for both the driver and the registered owner of the vehicle.
