WAHPETON (KFGO-AM) -- It took several hours for firefighters to get a handle on an out-of-control grass fire in Wahpeton Saturday afternoon.
KFGO's Gary Rogers was on the scene. He says the fire destroyed two storage sheds and all their contents. One of the sheds had barrels of oil inside and that created thick plumes of black smoke. Some businesses and part of a nearby mobile home court was evacuated. A half-mile stretch of Hwy 127 was also shut down for about an hour.
The buildings were owned by Jerry Meide of Wahpeton.
Firefighters from Wahpeton, Breckenridge, Fairmount, and Dwight battled the blaze.
