JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO-AM) - The North Dakota Farmers Union is not wasting any time. The state's largest farm organization started circulating petitions Wednesday to refer the recently passed corporate farming exemptions to a statewide vote. The Farmers Union wants voters to reject the changes, saying it will only hurt ailing dairy and hog operations.

State Farmers Union President Mark Watne says a limited number of petitions are out now. The drive to gather signatures should be in full swing by the end of the week.

He says the group's board of governor's, with contacts in every county, will be carrying the petitions along with volunteers who want to help.

Watne says supporters have a short window of time to collect more than 13,000 signatures by June 18th to get the measure on the June 2016 ballot.
