ST.PAUL (MNN) - Two more Minnesota turkey farms have been hit by avian bird flu. The latest farms in Stearns and Kandiyohi counties. To date, a total of seven farms have been affected.

It's believed this deadly virus is spread by migratory waterfowl and that's why DNR officials will begin testing birds near the affected farms. Dr. Michelle Carstensen says the hope is to be able to get some environmental samples to confirm presence of virus in wild waterfowl.

Because of the number of farms involved and the increased workload, state officials are now being assisted by a USDA incident management team and field representatives.
