LINCOLN, N.D. (AP) - Voters in Lincoln will go to the polls in June to decide whether to replace Mayor Bob Johnston.
City Auditor Mary Marvel tells the Bismarck Tribune that the mayor's opponents gathered the required 110 signatures to force a recall election on June 16th.
Those behind the recall petition say they question Johnston's credibility, his handling of city funds, as well as his use of the mayor's position. Johnston has had disagreements with city council members since October over groundwater and drainage issues, and his plans to work with the Burleigh County Highway Department.
Johnston says the allegations are "unfounded" and that he will not resign before the election.
Marvel says if Johnston doesn't step down before April 2nd his name will be automatically listed on the ballot.
