FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Senator John Hoeven is standing by his decision to sign a controversial letter warning Iran that any nuclear deal could collapse after President Obama leaves office.
Hoeven was among 47 senators who co-signed the letter written by Arkansas Republican Tom Cotton.
Hoeven says he disagrees with those who claim the letter undermines efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “We strengthened the president’s hand to get a good deal, not a bad deal that would allow Iran to get a bomb” Hoeven said. “We’re standing up to Iran and saying ‘no’ to a bomb; and that’s what the American people want.”
Hoeven calls Iran "the number one state sponsor of terrorism in the world." he says it's important to make sure Iran doesn't get a nuclear weapon before the U.S. releases its sanctions.
