FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Troy Larson admits he was a little surprised when he received an e-mail from someone working on the upcoming ABC tv drama "Boom", about the North Dakota oil patch.

He says a production designer for the series purchased one the Ghosts of North Dakota books he and business partner Terry Hinnenkamp published. The Fargo men also run the popular Ghosts of North Dakota website.

Larson and Hinnenkamp have spent more than a decade searching out ghost towns, documenting the disappearing towns across North Dakota. Larson has been told four large, framed, color prints from the book will be used on different sets of the t-v series. He says they won't get screen credits for the images but they will get paid.

The pilot, "Boom",  stars Don Johnson of Miami Vice fame who will also be executive producer.

It's the second big news for Larson and Hinnenkamp. Earlier this week, Google contacted Larson about adding Ghosts of North Dakota and their spin-off, Ghosts of North America, to Google's field trip "app" this summer. It will allow mobile "app" users to easily locate the many abandoned sites they've identified across North Dakota and nearby states.

The two have a fourth book coming out soon called, Churches of the High Plains.
