BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota attorney general's office is warning of a phone scam that involves callers posing as IRS agents.
The callers claim to be part of the IRS enforcement team and have tried to convince consumers to purchase a certified cashier's check, deposit it into another account, and email them the transaction receipt.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the scam has claimed at least one victim.
Stenehjem says the IRS does not notify people of a potential problem by leaving a threatening phone message. His advice to people who receive the calls: Hang up.
