MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- Moorhead's mayor predicts Fargo's request to use Moorhead Center Mall parking could be a "tough sell." The Moorhead City Council takes up the request Monday night.
Fargo wants permission to use under-utilized parking space in the city-owned mall ramp and surface lot to make up for the loss of parking as a result of construction of a new city hall and flood wall in downtown Fargo.
The 9-month trial would shuttle people back and forth between Moorhead and downtown Fargo on a Matbus running every 15 minutes, Monday through Saturday. The service would be free with no cost to Moorhead.
Fargo wants the use of 100 to 200 spaces. Mayor Del Raye Williams said the mall is adding more stores and she's concerned about losing too much parking. She stated, "It could be overwhelming and what if there's 9 months of not using the mall very effectively."
Williams hasn't ruled out changes that could make the proposal more acceptable to Moorhead. She added that city council members have greater concerns than she does about the idea.
