BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) North Dakota's House has endorsed a bill that would prohibit the governor from appointing a successor to a vacant U.S. Senate seat.
House voted 67-25 on Tuesday to send the legislation to the Senate.
Republican Representative Roscoe Streyle is the prime sponsor of the bill. He says the goal is to allow voters to choose the successor instead of the governor.
The legislation would require a special election to be held 95 days after a U.S. Senate seat is vacated.
