BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) North Dakota's House has unanimously approved legislation to strengthen oversight of oil and saltwater pipelines.
The House voted 93-0 Monday to send the measure to the state Senate.
The legislation combines parts of four other bills that were incorporated into a single measure.
The bill approved Monday mandates additional monitoring and safeguards such as flow meters and leak detection systems on pipelines that carry oilfield wastewater.
Companies also must submit design plans and post a bond before pipelines are built. Inspection of the pipelines would be done by a third party.
The legislation also provides $10 million over the next two years to clean up old spill sites. The money comes from a fund supported by oil and gas fees.
