BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) A Democratic North Dakota House member believes individual residents should have the opportunity to share in the state's wealth.
Representative Marvin Nelson of Rolla is sponsoring a resolution that would amend the state Constitution to allow direct payments to North Dakota residents. Nelson says a change in the state Constitution could make it possible to establish something similar to the Alaska Permanent Fund, where residents of that state receive an annual check for their share of the state's oil wealth
Testimony on the resolution is slated to be taken on Monday.
Nelson says the idea has ``weak'' support among his colleagues but it has growing support among most North Dakotans.
