BISMARCK (KFGO-AM) - The suspect shot and wounded in a confrontation with a Bismarck Police officer has been identified as Paul F. Smith, 22, of Grand Forks.
He was hospitalized but has since been transferred to the Burleigh County jail. Smith faces charges of assault on a police officer and disarming a law enforcement officer.
The shooting happened Tuesday after police pulled Smith over on a traffic stop. Smith grabbed the officer's gun during a struggle and as they both fought, it went off, hitting Smith in the thigh. The officer wasn't hurt. He's been put on administrative leave, pending the the outcome of an investigation.
