MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - More restrictions could be coming for businesses that provide massage therapy in Moorhead.

Moorhead Police Chief Dave Ebinger wants massage therapists and on-site managers to be required to live within 100 miles of where the business is located and to provide proof of citizenship, or resident alien status.

Ebinger tells KFGO News the changes are necessary to address growing concerns of human trafficking and prostitution. “When you look nationally at where there have been some indications of vice operations taking place under the guise of massage, we want to make sure we address any issues that may stem around that and take some precautionary measures that we don’t have those businesses operating in our area.”

Ebinger says the majority of massage therapists in the area are legitimate and provide a valuable service. He says he wants to make sure the quality is up to the standard the community expects.
