BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) - North Dakota's Agriculture Department has awarded grants totaling more than $30,700 to projects to plant trees and develop orchards in communities.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the goal of the federally funded North Dakota Community Orchard Project is to increase production of fruit and nut trees, provide educational opportunities and foster community spirit.

The money can be used for plants and supplies. It can't be used to buy land or to build permanent structures.

The eight groups receiving money are in Fort Yates, Wahpeton, Munich, Colfax, Sheyenne, Mylo, Fargo and Bismarck.
