FARGO (KFGO-AM) A big surprise for those who lease parking spots in the city owned Civic Center ramp in downtown Fargo. Thursday morning, several hundred found their spots already occuppied and had to park elsewhere. City Planning Director Jim Gilmour says those attending large events at the Radisson Hotel that's connected to the ramp filled the spots. While the hotel is allowed to lease space in the ramp, it's only for overnight parking.
Gilmour says such conflicts are occurring more often and the city is looking at ways to solve the problem. That could include increasing on-street time zones in area's around the ramp and Civic Center.
Gilmour says the shortage of parking will get worse without a solution. 150 spots in the City Hall lot will be lost to make way for the 2nd street floodwall, to be built next year. The city has agreed to issue a $5 credit to those affected by last week's problem.
