MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police say they used a Taser on a deer so that it could safely be cut free from the antlers of another dead deer.
The South Lake Minnetonka Police Department posted a video of the incident to YouTube. Police say that over the weekend officers were called to a residential area on a report that two deer were locked together by their antlers.
But by the time officers got to the scene, a wooded area behind some houses, one of the deer had already died. The other was frantically leaping and thrashing about, trying to free itself.
Police said they considered multiple options to free the live deer, while keeping in mind the safety of the officers and the health of the struggling animal.
In the end, police said they opted to use a Taser to stun the deer. While it was incapacitated, a neighbor with a power tool sawed off one of the its antlers.
