MINOT, N.D. (KFGO-AM) - The impact of Minot Air Force Base on the region's economy shrank a bit last year but remained well above half a billion dollars.
Base officials estimate the impact in fiscal 2014 at just under $578 million, down about $6 million from 2013.
Lt. Col. Ray Castro says the decrease was due mainly to budget and personnel cuts Air Force-wide.
There was nearly a 7 percent drop over the year in airmen, dependents and civilian workers at the Minot base. Payroll dropped $6.3 million, to about $357 million.
