WEST FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- West Fargo police have found a person who abandoned a dog Jan. 10 in the 2000 block of 5th Ave. E.
Witnesses said a vehicle stopped at an intersection and the driver let the dog out of the vehicle and drove away. The driver is described as female, 5-foot to 5-foot-3, dark hair and heavyset. The car was a light-colored Volkswagen station wagon or Ford Freestyle station wagon.
Abandonment of a dog is a Class A misdemeanor in North Dakota.
The dog, a pit bull mix, was taken to the West Fargo Animal Hospital and transferred to the Homeward Animal Shelter. The shelter says the dog has not been adopted as police first reported.
A residence in the area, equipped with video equipment, recorded the incident and turned over the video to police.
Police say the name of the woman who abandoned the dog will not be released because of the ongoing investigation.
