LAKE PARK, MINN. (KFGO-AM) - Half of the Lake Park City Council have filed to be mayor.
Acting Mayor Jon Anderson and Councilman Keith Zachariasen are seeking the seat left open when Mayor Aaron Wittnebel resigned under fire last month. The two other council members will interview the candidates this week and appoint one of them mayor at Monday's council meeting.
Because Wittnebel had less than two years left on his term, the city is not required to hold an election. City Clerk Lonnie Neuner says a special election may be required to fill the council seat left vacant by the mayoral appointment.
