North Dakota's Senate has killed a bill to have state lawmakers meet annually instead of every two years.
The Senate voted 28-19 Monday to reject the measure.
Legislation in both the Senate and the House was presented last week that would bring lawmakers back to the Capitol annually to deal with more issues spurred by the state's explosive growth.
The full House has not debated its bill.
Rep. Keith Kempenich is the primary sponsor of the measure that would hold a 20-day session in even-numbered years and 60-day session in odd-numbered years.
North Dakota is one only four states, along with Montana, Nevada and Texas, where the Legislature doesn't meet every year.
