BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) A growing number of North Dakota lawmakers believe the Legislature should meet annually instead of every two years.
Legislation in both the Senate and the House was presented Friday that would bring lawmakers back to the Capitol annually to deal with more issues spurred by the state's explosive growth.
Representative Keith Kempenich is the primary sponsor of a bill that would hold a 20-day session in even-numbered years and 60-day session in odd-numbered years. Senator John Grabinger is sponsoring a bill in the Senate that would hold a 50-day session in odd-numbered years and 30-day session in even-numbered years.
Lawmakers have debated holding annual sessions for years.
North Dakota is one only four states, along with Montana, Nevada and Texas, where the Legislature doesn't meet every year.
