BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) The North Dakota State Hospital has refused to voluntarily take in a woman accused of leaving her 2- and 4-year-old daughters to die in an unheated car during a frigid winter day.
The attorney for 24-year-old Michelle Wounded Face withdrew a motion that would have sent the mother of two to the State Hospital in Jamestown for a psychiatric evaluation.
Court documents show that the hospital refused to take her for voluntary commitment and gave away her bed to another patient this week.
Attorney Ryan Costello is now requesting that Wounded Face be moved to a Federal Bureau of Prisons Facility for treatment. His request also says that Wounded Face is improving under medication but needs a full evaluation before proceeding to trial.
