The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources today announced it will postpone an aquatic invasive species training and trailer decal program.
In a press release, the DNR said it will hold off on administering the program to give the state legislature time to consider changes to the program.
Under a law passedu in 2012, anyone trailering a boat or water-related item such as docks and lifts in Minnesota is required to take aquatic invasive species training and display a decal on their trailer. It was set to go into effect July 1.
The program was controversial among anglers, waterfowl hunters and lake property owners because enforcing the rule would have been difficult. The DNR said it recognizes that people transporting boats on trailers through Minnesota to another destination are required to take the course and display a decal even if they don't put their boat in Minnesota waters.
