BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - An Arizona man convicted of robbing a North Dakota bank has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.

Sean Nichols was sentenced Monday in federal court. He pleaded guilty in September to the robbery of Dakota Community Bank in Bismarck in May.

Authorities say Nichols got away with $7,000. All but $1,700 was recovered. As part his sentence, Nichols was ordered to pay the amount not recovered.

Prosecutors in court documents said Nichols is a career offender. He was convicted of robbing two banks in Tucson in 2004.

Nichols's defense attorneys had recommended a sentence of 2½ years. Nichols says he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the robbery.
