BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's House has killed a proposal to limit messages on the 30 portable electronic signs that are set up around the state.
The House voted 43-38 against the proposal on Friday.
Bismarck Republican Rep. Rick Becker was the primary backer of the idea. He says the signs should only be used for such things as weather information, road conditions, emergencies and missing persons.
But he says the signs display all types of messages, such as reminding people to wear seatbelts and to not drink and drive. He says those messages are unnecessary, obtrusive and they distract drivers.
