The U.S. Census Bureau said North Dakota is the fastest growing state in the country and a breakdown of recent census data found some interesting findings.
State Demographer Kevin Iverson said the Hispanic population has seen what he called a "dramatic increase". Between 2010 and 2013, the state's Hispanic population jumped by 53%. Iverson said when he saw the percentage changes, he had to check his math to make sure it was correct. He called it a "good news story" that shows people from outside the state are seeing opportunities in North Dakota.
Iverson said the increase in the Hispanic population is not due only to jobs in the oil patch. The numbers are distributed across the state.
He says Cass County now has the largest Hispanic population in the state, followed by Ward County.
