A Williston man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison on illegal weapons charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ronald Gibbons pleaded guilty in federal court on two counts of possession of firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Authorities say Gibbons was found with a loaded handgun in his vehicle after he was stopped for a traffic violation in April 2014. He was charged in state court and released on bond.
Two months later, Gibbons was pulled over for operating a motorcycle with an expired registration. He was found to have loaded gun magazine on him, and a witness saw him throw a gun that was recovered by police.
Gibbons had three previous felony convictions in the state of Washington. A federal public defender could not be reached for comment.
