Legislators are looking to help out homeowners.
At the North Dakota legislative session, state Representative Jim Kasper is introducing the Property Tax Homestead Bill.
According to Representative Kasper North Dakota residents who own their homes, can have a portion of their property tax paid for by the state.
Representative Kasper says that although the issue of income tax is important he wants to put more emphasis on property taxes this session.
State Representative Jim Kasper said, "It's a credit against your property tax from the state of North Dakota, its true property tax relief; it's not through an education system. If you own a home, you're going to have the right to get it."
If passed Representative Kasper says this credit may be lower in the future depending on the price of oil.
