BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service says it will issue a permit to a Montana businessman who wants to mine gravel near Theodore Roosevelt's historic western North Dakota ranch.
The Forest Service says it found no significant impact with the project located 25 miles north of Medora.
Acting district ranger Karen Dunlap tells The Associated Press that she signed the decision on Tuesday. She says a permit will be issued once a bond amount is set.
The proposal to mine 25 acres of land is just a mile from Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch cabin.
Roger Lothspeich says he's been trying to get permission to mine gravel at the site for more than six years. He says he will start mining gravel at the site this spring.
