The future is now at The Mighty 790, and it sounds pretty familiar.
Beginning Monday, longtime KFGO-AM personality Jack Sunday will team with Amy Iler on the “It Takes 2” program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.
It’s not like KFGO listeners don’t know Amy – she’s been the popular producer and a recognizable voice on “News and Views” with Joel Heitkamp for many years. But the pairing of Jack and Amy is new and melds two generations of KFGO’s successful legacy.
"We are not going to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we’ll keep it rolling with familiar guests and segments while adding new features and topics along the way,” Sunday said. “I guarantee ‘It Takes 2’ will be filled with relevant, entertaining talk that Baby Boomers from my generation and Millenials from Amy’s will love. I’m very much looking forward to working with her.”
Jack began his radio career in 1968 and moved to Fargo in 1989. He’s been an integral part of KFGO consistently being recognized as one of the top news-talk stations in the country, helping win Peabody, Marconi and Edward R. Murrow awards.
Jack’s resonant voice has become familiar to generations of listeners, whether it’s been during trying times like the Red RiverValley floods of 1997 and 2009 or more relaxing times like Saturday mornings when he hosts the popular country-music based “Solid Gold Show.”
Amy is sure to bring a fresh, “millennial” perspective to KFGO. She joined the station in 2007 and her charming, unique voice and animated personality have made her popular with listeners. A native of Bismarck, N.D., and a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, her passion for people and community involvement shine through.
“Jack and I grew up in different worlds, but we share many interests and passions,” Iler said. “We both love Fargo-Moorhead, North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. We’re all connected and that’s what our program is going to be about – coming together to have a conversation.”
That’s not to say there won’t be disagreements.
“I love children!” Iler said.
“They carry germs,” Sunday replied.
Which just goes to show: The more things change at KFGO, the more they stay the same.
