CHICAGO (AP) - Parts of the country got their first taste of winter over the weekend, with freezing cold temperatures that will hang around for much of this week.
The National Weather Service says it will be far colder than normal in the eastern two-thirds of the country. Parts of North Dakota and Minnesota are expected to see wind chills as low as 50 degrees below zero through Monday morning.
Meteorologists aren't using the words "polar vortex." That's mainly because what's happening is pretty typical for this time of year and less dramatic than last January's chill.
Accumulating snowfall is also likely in parts of the Midwest. And in the West, moisture will drop as much as 6 inches of rain in the Seattle area and could mean substantial snowfall in the Cascades.
