FARGO (KFGO-AM) - A longtime federal court of appeals judge from Fargo is about to publish his autobiography.

Ninety-five-year-old Judge Myron Bright is the longest-serving federal appeals court judge in the nation. The Eveleth, Minn. native was appointed to the bench by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968.

Bright says the most exciting time of his tenure was deciding cases that arose from the Civil Rights Movement.

Bright tells KFGO news that recent confrontations in which two unarmed black men were killed by white police officers, are an indicator that police need better training. Bright also says he's concerned because the government has been encouraging police to become more militarized through the use of heavy armament and special equipment.

Bright is an advocate of eliminating federal sentencing guidelines because he believes they fall more heavily on minorities for the same crime.

Bright's book is entitled "Goodbye Mike, Hello Judge: My Journey For Justice."
