BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The federal government says over 8,500 North Dakota residents signed up for health insurance in the first month of the Affordable Care Act's second enrollment period.
The second enrollment season for President Barack Obama's signature health care law began Nov. 15 and runs through Feb. 15. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday said 8,528 people selected plans in North Dakota by the Dec. 15 deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1. Of those, 61 percent re-enrolled in plans and 39 percent signed up for the first time.
About 88 percent of those choosing plans in the first month were deemed eligible for financial assistance.
Nationwide, over 4 million people signed up for the first time or re-enrolled in coverage for 2015 during the open enrollment's first month.
