Bismarck, N.D. (AP) The victim services program of the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has received a grant to promote victims' rights during an annual event.

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the funding to the state to be used during the 2015 national crime victims' rights week, which will run from April 19th through 25th.

Carisa upton is the state's victim services coordinator. She says this year's community awareness project will be focused in the western part of North Dakota, where crime rates have increased as a result of thousands of people flocking to the area in search of high paying jobs in the oil fields.

The program provides information to empower victims and attempts to raise community awareness of the importance of supporting victims through a mass media campaign.
