FARGO (KFGO-AM) Former Fargo City Commissioner Brad Wimmer says he'll run for mayor in this April's special election as voters elect a successor to Dennis Walaker who died earlier this month. A long time businessman, Wimmer served as city commissioner for eight years and ran for mayor in the June election, losing to Walaker by a margin of 56 to 44%.
Wimmer's decision will pit him against at least one other city commissioner. Tim Mahoney, now interim mayor, has said he will run for the job. Wimmer says he isn't in lockstep with Mahoney and he says voters will notice their differences.
Flood protection, securing a reliable water supply for the city, public safety and keeping up with infrastructure needs are among his priorities. He also says making a decision on a location for a convention center will also be at the top of his list. Wimmer also says it may be time to hire a city manager.
