Bismarck, N.D. (AP) Authorities in North Dakota are accusing a couple of keeping two young children locked in a basement bedroom.
27-year-old Eugene Garaas and 24-year-old Melissa Archambault have been charged with child neglect, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
Bismarck police say officers found the children in the basement when they executed a search warrant at a home. Police say both children were found in dirty diapers and have now been placed in protective custody.
The couple told police they kept the children locked so they wouldn't get a hold of dangerous items.
Police say officers found methamphetamine pipes in a box inside a closet.
It's unclear whether Garaas and Archambault have legal representation.
