Mandan, N.D. (AP) Mandan officials are considering putting a half percent sales tax on the ballot next June to fund a hockey arena with two sheets of ice and a gymnastics program building.
The Park Board has approved bringing the proposal to voters. City commissioners also must agree. They won't decide until early next year.
City officials are awaiting the outcome of a study to help them decide what facilities are most needed for city operations. Other needs that have been mentioned include a north-side fire hall and a new city hall.
Officials say there is no room to expand the all seasons arena hockey facility near Mandan High School, and that the upper level of city hall that is home to Dakota Star Gymnastics has a leaky roof and inadequate drinking water.
