McGregor, N.D. (AP) North Dakota health officials say a 15-barrel brine spill in far western North Dakota has been contained.
The North Dakota Department of Health says operator continental resources, incorporated has reported that the brine spilled was caused by a gasket leak on a brine pipeline. Brine is an unwanted byproduct of oil production that is many times saltier than sea water.
The spill happened in Divide County about six miles northwest of McGregor. Officials say it affected nearby soil and waters of a frozen prairie pothole.
Health department inspectors are on site monitoring the cleanup efforts.
