Baseboard heater likely caused Fargo apt. fire

FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Investigators say a baseboard heater was the likely cause of an explosion and fire at a Fargo apartment building last week. The fire at 2709 15th street was put out within minutes and damage was limited to one bedroom.

Fargo Fire Marshal Ryan Erickson says the type of heater suspected of causing the blaze was the subject of a national recall in 1996.

Erickson says the same type of heater was near the origin of two other fires in Fargo--including a fire that killed a person in 1993.
