BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are promoting safety around school buses in three eastern North Dakota cities.
The patrol scheduled Trooper on a Bus events in the Thompson and Valley City areas on Wednesday and in the Enderlin area on Thursday. Troopers riding on school buses observe traffic violations that occur around buses and radio the information to officers in squad cars who make traffic stops.
The patrol has used the program throughout the state in recent years to boost safety and catch violators. Failing to stop for a school bus can result in a $100 fine for both the driver and the registered owner of the vehicle.
