Williston, N.D. (AP) Unofficial election results show Mark Fox will be the next leader of North Dakota's oil-rich Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara nation.
Fox received 1,240 votes in the election, beating tribal attorney Damon Williams, who picked up 1,094.
The tribes' election board has three days to certify the election.
Fox and Williams were the two top vote getters in a Sept. 16 primary election. That contest eliminated current chairman Tex Hall.
Fox and Williams ran campaigns that were critical of the way the current administration handled problems that followed North Dakota's oil boom to their reservation.
Fox says he hopes his election will present a time for healing.
