Minneapolis (AP) Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has staked out a lead as votes are counted in his bid for a second term.
With thousands of precincts yet to report, Dayton held a narrow edge over Republican challenger Jeff Johnson.
Dayton was trying to be the first Democratic governor in the state to win consecutive terms since Rudy Perpich in 1986.
Dayton won his last race on a recount and was hoping on more breathing room this time, but the race grew tighter in the closing days.
