Bismarck, N.D. (AP) State Fire Marshal Ray Lambert is reminding people to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they set back their clocks for daylight saving.
Lambert says the early warning of a smoke alarm can boost chances of survival by increasing the amount of time a person has to escape a fire in their home.
Lambert says there were 10 fire-related fatalities last year in North Dakota. Six of the 10 fatalities occurred in residential fires.
Lambert says fire-related losses totaled more than $33 million in 2013.
