FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Cass County residents could see an increase in their phone bills. A measure on next month's ballot would give emergency communication services more funding.
The Red River Regional Dispatch Center receives funding from a program set up around 30 years ago. The dispatch center director says he'd like to see some extra money come their way to keep up with technology and growth. "We're trying to get into more of a digital world like everyone else is in right now with their smart phones so we could do texts to 911 someday video someday photograph," said Red River Regional Dispatch Director Byron Sieber.
West Fargo already has an increased tax for emergency services so the measure will make the amount uniform in the county. The change will be from $1 to $1.50.
If the measure passes, the extra fee will be implemented for landlines as well as cell phones starting January 1st.
