WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO-AM) Firefighters battled a liquid propane tank fire near the Bobcat manufacturing plant on the north side of Wahpeton Monday morning in temperatures down to 24-blow and a windchill hovering close to a minus 50.
Fire Chief Derek Miller told KFGO's Gary Rogers on scene that l-p leaked from a pump on one of two 1,000 gallon tanks and somehow ignited the pressurized gas as it escaped the tank. Miller says that sent a fireball approximately 8 feet high and 12 feet wide from the tank. He says an investigation is underway to determine what started the fire.
Miller says the leak may have been caused by an improper connection. Firefighters poured lots of water on the tanks to keep them cool and avoid an explosion. There were no injuries.
