DILWORTH (KFGO-AM) --Dilworth police say it may be the largest theft investigation they've ever handled.

Sargent Andrew MacFarland tells KFGO News a number of new vehicles, parked at the BNSF rail yard in Dilworth were stolen. Those vehicles are shipped by rail from the manufacturer to the auto terminal and then trucked to dealers across the region.

MacFarland says the thefts were reported October 6th. Several vehicles have since been recovered. At least one was located out-of-state. Some were damaged.

MacFarland estimates the value of the stolen vehicles is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. There have been no arrests. Because it's an on-going investigation, MacFarland cannot comment on how many vehicles are involved or if the theft is connected to organized crime.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department and the BNSF Railroad are assisting in the investigation.
